The position we have available here at Purple will be responsible for efficiently maintaining and processing vast quantities of location and IoT data.


You will be immersed in how this data is collected, stored and queried robustly and more importantly - efficiently.


You will report directly into our Head of Location Services and will be instrumental in the expansion of our core data platform, delivering new scale and capability to our current live services and future solutions.


Prior experience of working with large (multiple-billion row) datasets is essential, along with a track record of working on real time and time-series data problems, in a high volume, high velocity data environment.


With an attitude towards precise, efficient, secure code, and a passion for taking on big challenges with new technologies, you will have:


Essential:

  • Good Knowledge of PHP, MySQL, and RabbitMQ (or similar message queues technologies)

  • As a data systems specialist, you will have a demonstrable knowledge in a broad range of database technologies, both SQL and NoSQL.

  • Aptitude for asynchronous systems, and comfortable profiling code for bottlenecks/optimisations

  • Experience with AWS or other cloud hosting providers

  • Solid version control systems knowledge, particularly git

  • Strong Linux background, with experience in maintaining live server systems.

Desirable:

  • Experience of major Bigdata Technologies, Hadoop, Spark.

  • Ability to take on new programming languages and methodologies, eg Go,

  • Experience integrating with 3rd party APIs.

  • Experience building web applications at large scale (data size and/or volume of traffic)

  • Experience with IoT devices, at programmable or embedded level, and their supporting data platforms.

  • Experience mentoring junior colleagues
